Recently, I’ve been trying to come up with new ideas for dinner parties. Last weekend, it was my friend Jaime’s birthday and she was hosting a party on Saturday night. Naturally, I wanted to bring something that everyone would enjoy on a cold fall evening and my first thought was cider.

As it turned out, it was a real crowd-pleaser. Best part? Little effort and costs involved. Here’s what it took:

1 bottle of Spiced Apple Cider from Trader Joes ($2.99)

3 Lemons ($0.49 each)

1 pinch of salt

5 cinnamon sticks ($2.99)

3 sliced apples ($3)

A large pan and 1 1/2 hours of tv watching/magazine reading (while it simmers).

For a grand total of less than $15 ($22 with the apple brandy add-in), it’s definitely worth the cost. Your friends will be raving about it until Christmas come (when we surprise them with spiked eggnog)!

Fall and Fabulous,

Maranda, I applaud you. I have always served warm apple cider with the cinnamon sticks but you have gone the extra mile by adding the lemons and apple brandy. It sounds so yummy that I wish I had some..You are utterly remarkable cooking, working and blogging some wonderful excursions. Have you thought of being a travel agent?
